So today I was thinking a lot about the bad weather and how I wish it would get nice because I’m not much of a fisherman (pretty terrible really) but I kind of love to fish, especially sea fishing and thought I would write about some of my experiences. Let’s start with a story about when I went to New Jersey. A friend of mine and I went to New Jersey years ago to visit another friend who was a big fisherman. LOVES to fish. I had never really fished before this. Maybe some ice fishing when I was super young but no real fishing to my resume. Anyway, he wanted to take us out on the ocean and do some fishing from a boat with a bunch of other big fishermen. We geared up, put our vests on and headed out. It’s the first time I had ever really felt sea sick too. As the boat started to stop one of the crew member came around asking people to put 5 dollars in a pot for the biggest fish caught of the day. Being poor and never having fished before I said no thanks I’ll save my money for gas or comics or food or cds. Wrong move. As we started to fish I wasn’t having much luck. Actually, it was terrible luck. I almost cast backwards and caught an experienced fisherman in the lip with my hook while he cussed at me and told me to watch what I was doing. I don’t remember much else but I did end up catching a nice sized fish and the only fish I caught all day. On our way back they did the measuring of all the fishes caught in the day and it turns out if I would have put my measly five bucks into the pot I would have won. How much you ask? 225 big ones.
The only other time I caught anything really worth noting was when I went to Florida in 2004. My brother and I went out with my uncle and rode around a lake for hours upon hours trying to catch anything that would move. None of us had any luck. On our last stretch I decided to throw one more cast out and I swear to you that my hook must have hit this fish on the head, then slid down his face, into his mouth and hooked because it wasn’t even a second after I cast that something was pulling me super hard. Either the fish I had hooked was extremely strong or I was extremely weak (probably the latter) but I felt like I was fighting with it forever. I finally pulled it in and got the only catch of the day.
Sometimes it didn’t matter if there were no fishing poles we were getting fish.
My favorite fishing moments were always from the beach though. The most exciting one was probably when my brother and his two friends caught a pretty nice sized shark.
There were always whacky things being caught…
and being kissed… only by Frank though…
