Mostly sketches, scribbles, and rushed landscapes here are some of my favorite pages from my “nature” sketchbook.
“Out on the lake, fat predatory walleye prowled the nearshore for baitfish. Dozens of other anglers had come to the breakwall to cast glowing baits and rattling plugs, slowly retrieved in the hopes of hooking one of the year’s biggest walleye. Fish up to 30 inches and over ten pounds cruised the surface looking for shiners and shad in a vast food-web sprawling across this Great Lake.” – Matt Stansberry

I just posted some original artwork up in my shop www.downpourcreative.storenvy.com
Artwork includes pieces done for Belt Magazine as well as other personal pieces done in ink, acrylic and watercolor. The store also features zines, shirts as well as other art prints. I’ve posted a sampling below.
Matt Stansberry and I went in search of rattlesnakes with a few guides for the next Belt magazine column. Geared up in thick boots and gator protectors, we hiked through woods, fields, and swampy areas in search of Eastern Massasauga Rattlesnakes. We turned up two rattlesnakes as well as a few garters and a brown snake.
For anyone keeping up with the monthly nature essays I’ve been illustrating for Belt Magazine, we are releasing limited prints and a collection of the essays from the past 6 months in print form called Redhorse: The Rustbelt Bestiary.
