I want to share a piece I painted almost a year ago and never got around to doing anything with. I rarely work in a larger format. Most of my art is done on bristol or watercolor paper no larger than 11×17 (for scanning purposes mostly). I wanted to try something a bit different and purchased a few 2ft x 2ft wood boards to paint on.
Starting with a few pencil sketches and eventually a final sketch I used a projector to trace my original sketch onto the board.
Then the painting begins.
Uploaded some photos from my sketchbooks over the last six or seven years. Here are a few shots. You can view all 84 photos here.
I’m pretty excited about the upcoming season of Game of Thrones. So I painted Ygritte.
Illustration I did of Woody Allen. Watercolor.
Spot portraits of Zack Galifianakis and Rihanna for upcoming project.
Illustration of Waka Flocka Flame.
Here’s a look at some shirts I designed and printed for The Worlders. We wanted to make a shirt that worked two ways so with a little bit of elbow grease we produced these guys. Super large print on black and white shirts. Modeled by the grizzly Colin.
The second thing I’m posting is a sketchbook. I have like 3 sketch books going on at all times for different things. I keep one for writings/ideas/random, one for when I travel and a third for a special topic. This sketchbook was based on portraits. I use the sketchbooks to work on my drawing skills but mostly to play around with technique.
Old one first. This is out of a sketchbook from a while back. Girl in water.
Illustration for the theme Trayvon Martin. Have we focused too much on the hoodie?
Video of Sam Weber in his studio. He’s one of my favorite illustrators and a huge inspiration. It’s nice to get a small glimpse into his studio and work.
A picture from one of my drawing tables. Found a nice picture of Ron Paul and thought I would pencil it out and ink it up. Pretty large… 18×24 ish? The paper in the back is folded in making him look funky ha!
